What we would tell you in the studio

  • Visible seam construction. We brought the seam allowances to the outside of the knit, leaving raised lines along the dropped shoulders and side panels. The body remains smooth on the inside while the exterior shows how the panels join together.
  • Crewneck and long sleeves. The round neckline is bound with a compact band that rests flat at the collarbone. Full-length sleeves narrow into vertical grain ribbing at the wrists, which keeps the cuffs anchored in place when pushed up the forearm.
  • Lower split hem. The hem drops past the hip line with open side vents. This split lets the front and back panels hang straight over thick denim, leggings, or a base layer without bunching around the lower body.
  • Care and washing. Hand washing in cold water protects the soft yarn blend from excessive friction. If you use a machine, select a gentle cycle with mild detergent, avoid bleach, and lay the knit flat on a towel to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
