Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a generous cut that hangs clear of the torso. The outside seams give the shoulders and sleeves visible ridge lines, while the deep grayish blue yarn keeps the surface calm. It reaches down toward the hip and upper leg with side vents along the lower hem.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam lines. We brought the join lines to the outside of the garment across the shoulders and along the sleeves. These raised ridges give the smooth knit clean structural detail without adding bulk to the body.
- Crew neck and cuffs. The neckline is finished as a neat round crew that sits flat against the collarbone. Tight vertical grain ribbing at the wrists gathers the wide sleeves so they stay in place when pushed up the forearm.
- Split tunic hem. Deep vents at each side open up the lower hem so the fabric falls cleanly over trousers or skirts without catching. The length provides extended coverage through the back and hips.
- Cold water wash. Wash this sweater by hand or run it on a gentle machine cycle with cold water and mild soap. Lay it flat across a towel to air dry so the oversized body keeps its shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
