What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neckline and seams. The plain round crew neck sits flat against the base of the collarbone. Visible outside seams run down the knit to break up the broad pale pink surface.
  • Sleeve and cuff gauge. The sleeves drop into full length with plenty of room through the arm. Ribbing along each cuff narrows the opening to stay put at your wrist.
  • Split tunic hem. We cut the lower edge with open side splits so the fabric falls cleanly over trousers or skirts. The hem drops past the hip without bunching up.
  • Cold cycle care. Wash by hand or run on a gentle machine cycle with cold water and mild detergent. Lay the knit flat on a towel to dry so the shape stays true.

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
