What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neckline and seams. The round crewneck sits flat against the collarbone without pulling. Raised exterior seams run down the knit, adding clean structure to an otherwise relaxed shape.
  • Sleeve and cuff gauge. Long sleeves drop low off the shoulder and taper toward the wrist. We knit the cuffs in a tight vertical grain so you can push them up your forearms.
  • Split hemline. The lower hem lands low around the hips with open side splits. This open edge lets the tunic hang straight without bunching over trousers or knit skirts.
  • Washing and care. Hand wash in cold water or run on a gentle machine cycle with mild soap. Lay the sweater flat on a clean towel so the heavy wet knit keeps its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
