What we would tell you in the studio

  • Exposed seam details. Raised outer seams run along the shoulders and body, giving the smooth knit surface extra definition. It keeps the shape structured while maintaining a clean, relaxed drape.
  • Crew neck and cuffs. The round neckline is banded with tidy ribbing that holds its shape. Matching vertical grain rib at the cuffs pulls the long sleeves in slightly at the wrists.
  • Split lower hem. We opened the side seams at the base so the fabric falls without catching around the hips. The extra length drops lower in back, resting smoothly over bottoms.
  • Cold wash care. Hand wash in cold water or run on a gentle cycle with mild soap. Lay the sweater flat on a dry towel so the weight of wet yarn does not stretch the body.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
