Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this crewneck in a soft, medium-weight yarn with an open body that falls straight past the hips. The outside seam construction runs along the shoulders and down the sleeves, breaking up the flat surface of the knit. It gives you room to move without heavy bulk.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam construction. We brought the seam allowances to the outside of the knit along the shoulders and sleeves. This visible ridge adds structure to the dropped sleeve line and gives the surface a clean, finished detail.
- Neckline and vertical cuffs. The round crewneck sits flat against the collarbone with a narrow band of knit. At the wrists, vertical grain ribbing holds the long sleeves in place when you push them up.
- Slotted tunic hem. The hem drops past the hip line and features open side splits. These vents allow the lower half of the sweater to move freely over trousers or leggings rather than gathering at the waist.
- Care and washing. Hand washing in cold water protects the soft blend from pilling. If you machine wash, choose a gentle cycle with a mild detergent and lay the piece flat on a towel to dry.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
