Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a roomy body that hangs away from the torso down to a split hem. The checkered apricot pattern runs across a soft viscose blend yarn. Ribbed trims finish the neck, wrists, and lower edge, while raised outside seams define the sleeve joins.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Outside seam construction. We brought the seam allowances to the outside of the knit across the shoulders and sleeves. This leaves a clean, flat finish against your skin on the inside while creating distinct structural lines along the garment.
- Split lower hem. The hem drops past the hip line with open splits set into each side. This keeps the tunic length from bunching up when you sit down or move, letting the front and back panels drape independently over trousers.
- Ribbed crew neckline. A dense band of circular ribbing frames the crewneck. It sits close to the base of the neck without pulling tight, holding its shape after repeated wear and layering cleanly over collared shirts or light tees.
- Washing and drying. Hand wash this knit in cold water or run it through a gentle machine cycle with mild soap. Press the water out gently without wringing, then spread the sweater flat on a dry towel away from direct heat.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
