Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a generous, loose body that falls clear of the torso. The crew neckline sits flat, framed by dropped shoulders and distinct outside seam ridges. Long sleeves finish in tidy vertical ribbing that keeps the wrists in place throughout the day.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam detailing. Raised exterior seams run along the shoulders and body panels, giving the plain knit surface clear structural lines. They break up the broad cut without adding bulk to the interior.
- Hem and side vents. The lower edge drops past the hip with open splits on both side seams. These vents let the front and back panels move independently rather than catching on trousers or leggings.
- Ribbed cuffs and collar. The round neckline is bound with narrow ribbing that holds its shape. At the wrists, firmer vertical-grain rib bands gather the wider sleeve fabric so it stays put when pushed up.
- Washing and shape care. Hand wash in cold water or run a gentle machine cycle with mild soap. Lay the sweater flat across a drying rack to keep the open-knit weight from stretching out the shoulders.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
