Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a generous cut that hangs clear of the body from the crewneck down past the hips. The deep wine red yarn has a smooth hand and enough weight to drop straight. Exposed seam lines run along the outside to break up the surface of the knit.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam lines. We brought the join lines to the outside of the sweater rather than turning them in. This gives the shoulders and body panels a defined line across the flat knit surface without adding bulk.
- Crewneck and cuffs. The round neckline is banded with tight vertical ribbing that stays flat against the collarbone. That same narrow rib finishes the long sleeves, holding the cuff at the wrist when you push them up.
- Split side hem. The body drops straight and opens into side splits at the bottom edge. This lets the longer panels fall cleanly over denim or trousers without pulling tight when you sit or walk.
- Cold wash care. Hand washing in cold water protects the spun yarn from fuzzing. If you use a machine, select a gentle cycle, use mild soap, and lay the pullover flat on a towel so the wet knit keeps its shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
