Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a generous, loose body that sits clear of the torso. The baby blue yarn has a smooth, midweight hand, finished with a classic round crew collar and external ridge seams along the sleeve line. Side splits at the hem give the longer cut room to move over trousers or base layers.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam lines. We brought the joining seams to the outside surface along the shoulders and arms. This creates a raised line of structural detail across the smooth field of the knit without adding bulk inside.
- Side split hem. The lower edge is bound in wide ribbing that divides into deep vents at the hips. The split construction lets the longer hem fall straight rather than pulling in or bunching around the lower body.
- Sleeve and cuff gauge. The sleeves run long from a dropped armhole and taper into ribbed cuffs with vertical grain. The dense cuff knitting grips the wrist firmly so you can push the extra sleeve length up your arm.
- Wash and lay flat. Hand wash in cool water or use a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Avoid bleach and press out excess moisture with a clean towel before laying the knit flat to dry so the seams hold their shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
