Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a generous, straight body that hangs well away from the torso. Exposed seam details trace the construction on the outside of the piece, while a low side split gives the lower hem room to move over trousers or leggings. The yarn has a smooth, medium-weight hand suitable for cool weather.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam lines. We brought the linking seams to the outside of the knit across the shoulders and body panels. This structural detail breaks up the plain-knit surface without adding bulk or weight to the garment.
- Crew neckline and cuffs. The collar sits as a close, double-layered round crew with fine ribbing that keeps its shape. Long sleeves finish in matching vertical grain cuffs that sit snug against the wrist to balance the wide body.
- Side split hem. Vents at the side seams let the lower hem fall straight without bunching over jeans or a skirt. The length drops past the waistline to give full coverage across the hips.
- Washing and shape care. Hand wash in cold water or use a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. To keep the heavy knit from stretching out along the seams, press out excess water and dry the piece flat.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
