Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a generous cut that hangs straight and clear of the body. The rounded crewneck sits flat against the collarbone, while exposed outside seamlines run down the body to structure the relaxed drape. A deep split hem lets the lower edge move freely over trousers or knit leggings.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam structure. We ran the construction seams along the outside of the knit rather than turning them in. This gives the smooth body panels a defined vertical line that guides how the fabric falls.
- Sleeve and cuff gauge. The sleeves drop into a relaxed fit along the arm and finish in close vertical grain ribbing. That rib pulls the fabric tidy at the wrist so the extra volume stays put.
- Split lower hem. The tunic length lands low near the hip line with open side splits. The split construction allows the fabric to drape without catching or bunching when you sit or walk.
- Washing and care. Wash by hand or use a gentle machine cycle with cold water and mild detergent. Skip the bleach, reshape the knit while damp, and lay it flat to dry so the yarn holds its shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
