Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with dropped shoulders and a broad body that hangs straight down to the hips. Exposed outside seams trace the construction lines, while vertical ribbing finishes the round neckline and deep cuffs. The light green yarn holds a smooth face that stays clear of bulk under winter coats.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed outer seams. Raised outward-facing seams run along the shoulders and body panels. This structural detail breaks up the plain knit surface without adding weight or stiffness to the drape of the torso.
- Split lower hem. The tunic-length hem is divided by deep side slits so the front and back panels move independently. It drops past the hip line, sitting flat over heavy denim or knit trousers without bunching.
- Ribbed crew neck. A classic round crewneck is finished with dense, narrow ribbing that keeps its shape across repeated wear. The collar sits flat against the collarbone and leaves room for a collared shirt underneath.
- Gentle cycle care. Hand wash in cold water or run on a gentle machine cycle using mild detergent. Lay the knit flat on a dry towel rather than hanging it, which protects the shoulders from stretching out.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
