Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a roomy, straight cut that hangs well away from the body. The pale pink yarn gives the plain crewneck a clean look, while the long hem drops past the hip. Exposed seam work traces the shoulders and body lines for clear texture.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam details. We ran the construction seams on the outside of the knit rather than turning them in. This gives the shoulders, sleeves, and side panels a visible ridge that breaks up the flat face of the sweater.
- Long split hem. The lower edge lands low, between the upper thigh and the knee depending on your height. Deep side splits open the hem so the knit moves freely over trousers or leggings instead of bunching at the waist.
- Ribbed crew and cuffs. A simple round neck sits flat against the collarbone without pulling tight. We finished the long sleeves with vertical rib cuffs that catch the wrist and keep the wider arm fabric from slipping forward.
- Gentle washing care. Hand wash this knit in cool water or use a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Lay the piece flat on a towel to dry so the long body and sleeves keep their shape over time.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
