Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a generous cut that hangs away from the body. The crewneck sits flat at the collarbone, balanced by dropped shoulders and exposed outer seams along the body. Long ribbed cuffs keep the sleeves in place at the wrists, while side vents let the lower hem move freely over trousers or skirts.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam construction. We brought the seam joins to the outside of the knit, tracing clean vertical lines down the body and along the sleeves. This structure breaks up the surface texture and gives the roomy shape defined edges.
- Crewneck and ribbed cuffs. The round crewneck is finished with narrow ribbing that keeps its shape against the collarbone. At the wrists, vertical grain cuffs anchor the wide sleeves so they push up easily and stay put.
- Split hemline. Deep side splits open up the lower hem so the fabric falls cleanly past the hips without catching or bunching when you sit. The front and back panels drape straight down.
- Yarn care. Hand wash in cold water or use a gentle machine cycle with mild soap. Lay the sweater flat across a drying rack so the weight of the damp knit does not stretch the seams out of shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
