Oversized Sweaters for Women
We knit this pullover with a generous, loose drape that sits well away from the torso. Exposed seam lines run along the outside to add structural texture, while deep side splits let the lower hem fall freely past the hips. It layers easily over collared shirts or under wide coats.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Exposed seam lines. Raised outer seams define the drop shoulder and panel construction across the body. The chocolate brown yarn gives these ridge details a clear, clean shadow that breaks up the smooth surface of the knit.
- Crew neckline and cuffs. The neckline is finished with a simple round crew band that sits flat against the collarbone. Tight vertical ribbing along the cuffs gathers the wide sleeves neatly at the wrists to keep the extra length in place.
- Side split tunic hem. The hem drops past the hip line with open side splits on each flank. This construction keeps the long body from bunching when you sit, letting the front and back panels hang straight.
- Cold water washing. Wash by hand or run on a gentle machine cycle with cold water and mild soap. Avoid bleach entirely. Lay the sweater flat on a clean towel to dry so the heavy knit retains its shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
